"Swingin' at Safeco Field" Benefit Auction 2008

Just a quick note to update the membership on the annual auction held Feb 2nd at Safeco field.

I would to thank all of the members for their contributions, the members that put in so many hours to put on the event, and those who attended and generously bought items and donated to our scholarship fund. Your support contributed to this year’s event being one of the most successful auctions in recent years.

A special thank you to our auction chair, Cherlyn Kozlak, who stepped up to the job just when we thought no one would, and made it into a fantastic event.

We had over 200 attendees for the evening (up 20% from last year) and they found great bargains on almost 400 silent items and competed hard for 41 incredible live items and events. A great evening was had by all!

The most active bidding wars in the live auction occurred on the autographed jerseys signed by the biggest names in hockey past (Gretzky, Messier, Orr, Bourque) and present (Ovechkin, Crosby, Neidermayer).

The proceeds from the auction go directly to our general funds that are used to maintain our facilities and thus keep down the costs of our programs enabling as many families as possible to afford to play hockey.

We haven’t finished gathering all the expenses and revenues yet but preliminary indications are that we exceeded last year’s results. Thank you again to all that made this possible.

Of course, all donations to the scholarship fund goes directly to a separate account that is used for allocations towards families in need as determined by our scholarship committee.

Thank you again for your support of our children and we hope you will plan to attend next year. It’s not too early to start thinking of what to procure for next year’s auction.
